3 Doors Down Bassit Enters Rehab After Being Charged With Vehicular Homicide

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The bassist for the rock band 3 Doors Down has checked himself into a drug treatment facility after bonding out of jail, the musician's lawyer said Wednesday. Robert Todd Harrell is accused of driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash last weekend in a Nashville suburb. Police say the 41-year-old bassist admitted to drinking and taking prescription drugs before the wreck on Friday.

"He was released on bond and immediately went and checked himself into treatment," said Nashville criminal defense lawyer Ed Ryan.

The attorney declined to say where the musician is being treated. However, he said that the treatment is not court-ordered and that Harrell went voluntarily. Ryan also said that he couldn't comment any further because he had just been retained and was beginning to look into the case. Harrell spent several days in jail and was freed on $100,000 bond on Tuesday. Police say the 41-year-old bassist was under the influence when he was speeding down Interstate 40 and clipped the back of a pickup truck. The driver of the truck, 47-year-old Paul Shoulders Jr. was killed as a result of the crash.

A publicist for 3 Doors Down announced this week that the band was canceling four of its upcoming appearances out of respect for the victim. Harrell is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide by intoxication, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, violation of the implied consent law and possession of contraband. Police records say that Harrell seemed to be confused about the crash and what happened, and he showed signs of being impaired during a series of field sobriety tests. Harrell admitted to drinking hard cider earlier in the evening and to taking prescribed Lortab and Xanax, records show.
A breathalyzer test showed that Harrell had no alcohol in his system, records show. He refused to give a blood sample and told police that he was worried about narcotics showing up in his system, records say. Police were able to get the sample through a court order. Harrell has had previous trouble with the law. He is scheduled to appear in a D'Iberville, Miss., court to answer a 2012 DUI charge next month. He was arrested in that city in July following an accident where he rear-ended another driver, D'Iberville Police Lt. Terry Hines said. Records indicate that he was arrested in Pascagoula, Miss., in 1999 on a charge of public intoxication. Harrell, police said, was drunk and used profanity when talking to officers after being warned several times to keep him mouth shut. It's not clear if he was convicted on that charge.

Harrell, who currently lives just outside of Nashville, is from Mississippi. The band formed in Mississippi in the `90s and is known for such hits as "When I'm Gone" and "Kryptonite," did not elaborate on the statement.

Rihanna quotes "Best stress reliever = $tripper$"

Rihanna isn't stingy with her cash when it comes to a big night out. While partying at Miami's King of Diamonds gentleman's club on Saturday night, the 25-year-old pop star dropped some $8,000 on several dancers, TMZ reports. A source for the club told the gossip site that the "Diamonds" singer paid particular attention to Remy Redd, one of the most popular dancers in Miami. TMZ even posted a video showing the Bajan beauty dropping cash onto a gyrating stripper. Apparently Rihanna stopped by to see how her music inspired the ladies, and ended up enjoying herself enough to stay at the club for two and a half hours. An insider also claimed to the site that Katy Perry joined her songstress friend at the venue during the night, but a rep for Perry tells the Daily News that the "Fireworks" singer was actually in Los Angeles at the time. Nor was Rihanna shy about her racy activities. Rihanna is no stranger to the strip club scene. 'Best stress relief = $tripper$' she tweeted last year. "Last night one of my fantasies came to life! I got to see K.O.D. strippers dance for me to the stripper song I made!" she tweeted. The singer also snapped photo evidence of her fun night, posting a shot of herself sitting amongst a cascade of dollar bills. "Wild for the night, phuck being polite!" she captioned the Instagram shot. Rihanna continued her spending spree on Monday night, stepping out after performing at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta to visit another strip club. But perhaps it's just the singer's way of winding down after a concert. After all, Rihanna tweeted last year, "Best stress reliever = $tripper$" Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/rihanna-drops-8-000-strip-club-article-1.1326074#ixzz2RQHyA7nu

Pornographic video clips already showing up on Twitter's Vine

Less than a week after Twitter unveiled Vine, the video-sharing app apparently has developed a porn problem. Released Thursday, the app for iPhone and iPod Touch lets anyone create and share six-second clips, but it also has become a popular venue for male genitalia and pornographic movies taped off TVs and laptops. As first pointed out last night by The New York Times' Nick Bilton, searches for #porn, #sex, and other associated tags brings up a handful of videos featuring male exhibitionism and other activity. While Vine's terms of service don't expressly forbid sexually explicit content, Twitter does encourage users to use good judgment when posting content. However, Vine users can flag videos they find offensive. If clips receive enough complaints, Twitter will add a warning still to the beginning of the video that users have to bypass to see the clip. Miley Cyrus Braless On Cosmo Cover

Miley Cyrus isn't afraid to flaunt what she's got. The 20-year-old star poses braless on the cover of Cosmopolitan's March 2013 issue and talks about her newfound confidence, as well as her hunky fiance Liam Hemsworth. Donning a white suit and not much else, Cyrus shows off her incredible body as she admits her fear of entering back into the music world. When asked to rank the parts of her life that she feels most satisfied with -- love, family, music, acting -- the former "Hannah Montana" actress puts love at the top spot. "Number one is my relationship with Liam. That's what I feel the most confident in," she gushes to Cosmopolitan adding, "because you never know; there's so much hype behind my new record, but it could come out and, worst-case scenario, everyone f**king hates it." That's doubtful, considering Cyrus has over 11 million followers on Twitter and admirers all around the world. And the reason she's so adored? Her individuality. "I think the best thing I could have done was take those two years off to really live, because now people don't think of me as who I was on the TV show," Cyrus says of her Disney past. "Some of the worst things that have happened in my career, like things getting leaked, have actually been what's best for me, because people knew when I was on that show that I was really growing up. I never faked anything. I never played the Disney game of smiling and being a princess and then suddenly having a hard time, saying, 'That isn't who I really am.'" As for who she really is now, Cyrus admits she's the luckiest girl in the world, thanks in part to her delicious arm candy. "I'll literally look at him and be like 'You are hot, dear God!'" the singer says of Hemsworth. "The other day, I turned on the pool heater and it was steaming, and he walked outside and took off his clothes and jumped in the pool. I was like, 'I'm gonna faint -- the hottest guy of my life is in a steaming pool. This looks like a Playgirl shoot.' So I took a photo and made it the background on my phone. My best friend grabbed my phone and was like, 'Who's that? He is so hot!'," she continues, "That's my hubby!" Check out Miley's Cosmo cover below and tell us what you think! miley cyrus braless

Brazil Nightclub Fire Kills At Least 232 People

PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil — Flames raced through a crowded nightclub in southern Brazil early Sunday, killing more than 230 people as panicked partygoers gasped for breath in the smoke-filled air, stampeding toward a single exit partially blocked by those already dead. It appeared to be the world's deadliest nightclub fire in more than a decade. Witnesses said a flare or firework lit by band members started the blaze in Santa Maria, a university city of about 225,000 people, though officials said the cause was still under investigation. Television images showed smoke pouring out of the Kiss nightclub as shirtless young men who had attended a university party joined firefighters using axes and sledgehammers to pound at windows and walls to free those trapped inside. Guido Pedroso Melo, commander of the city's fire department, told the O Globo newspaper that firefighters had a hard time getting inside the club because "there was a barrier of bodies blocking the entrance." Teenagers sprinted from the scene desperately seeking help. Others carried injured and burned friends away in their arms. "There was so much smoke and fire, it was complete panic, and it took a long time for people to get out, there were so many dead," survivor Luana Santos Silva told the Globo TV network. The fire spread so fast inside the packed club that firefighters and ambulances could do little to stop it, Silva said. Another survivor, Michele Pereira, told the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper that she was near the stage when members of the band lit flares that started the conflagration. "The band that was onstage began to use flares and, suddenly, they stopped the show and pointed them upward," she said. "At that point, the ceiling caught fire. It was really weak, but in a matter of seconds it spread." Guitarist Rodrigo Martins told Radio Gaucha that the band, Gurizada Fandangueira, started playing at 2:15 a.m. "and we had played around five songs when I looked up and noticed the roof was burning" "It might have happened because of the Sputnik, the machine we use to create a luminous effect with sparks. It's harmless, we never had any trouble with it. "When the fire started, a guard passed us a fire extinguisher, the singer tried to use it but it wasn't working" He confirmed that accordion player Danilo Jacques, 28, died, while the five other members made it out safely. Police Maj. Cleberson Braida Bastianello said by telephone that the toll had risen to 233 with the death of a hospitalized victim – he said earlier that the death toll was likely made worse because the nightclub appeared to have just one exit through which patrons could exit. Officials counted 232 bodies that had been brought for identification to a gymnasium in Santa Maria, which is located at the southern tip of Brazil, near the borders with Argentina and Uruguay. Federal Health Minister Alexandre Padhilha told a news conference that most of the 117 people treated in hospitals had been poisoned by gases they breathed during the fire. Only a few suffered serious burns, he said. Brazil President Dilma Roussef arrived to visit the injured after cutting short her trip to a Latin American-European summit in Chile. "It is a tragedy for all of us," Roussef said. Most of the dead apparently were asphyxiated, according to Dr. Paulo Afonso Beltrame, a professor at the medical school of the Federal University of Santa Maria who went to the city's Caridade Hospital to help victims. Beltrame said he was told the club had been filled far beyond its capacity during a party for students at the university's agronomy department. Survivors, police and firefighters gave the same account of a band member setting the ceiling's soundproofing ablaze, he said. "Large amounts of toxic smoke quickly filled the room, and I would say that at least 90 percent of the victims died of asphyxiation," Beltrame told The Associated Press by telephone. "The toxic smoke made people lose their sense of direction so they were unable to find their way to the exit. At least 50 bodies were found inside a bathroom. Apparently they confused the bathroom door with the exit door." In the hospital, the doctor "saw desperate friends and relatives walking and running down the corridors looking for information," he said, calling it "one of the saddest scenes I have ever witnessed." Rodrigo Moura, identified by the newspaper Diario de Santa Maria as a security guard at the club, said it was at its maximum capacity of between 1,000 and 2,000, and partygoers were pushing and shoving to escape. Santa Maria Mayor Cezar Schirmer declared a 30-day mourning period, and Tarso Genro, the governor of the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, said officials were investigating the cause of the disaster. The blaze was the deadliest in Brazil since at least 1961, when a fire that swept through a circus killed 503 people in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro. Sunday's fire also appeared to be the worst at a nightclub since December 2000, when a welding accident reportedly set off a fire at a club in Luoyang, China, killing 309. In 2004, at least 194 people died in a fire at an overcrowded nightclub in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Seven members of a band were sentenced to prison for starting the flames. Several years later, in December 2009, a blaze at the Lame Horse nightclub in Perm, Russia, killed 152 people after an indoor fireworks display ignited a plastic ceiling decorated with branches. Similar circumstances led to a 2003 nightclub fire that killed 100 people in the United States. Pyrotechnics used as a stage prop by the 1980s rock band Great White set ablaze cheap soundproofing foam on the walls and ceiling of a Rhode Island music venue. The band performing in Santa Maria, Gurizada Fandangueira, plays a driving mixture of local Brazilian country music styles. Guitarist Martin told Radio Gaucha the musicians are already seeing hostile messages. "People on the social networks are saying we have to pay for what happened," he said. "I'm afraid there could be retaliation". ___ Sibaja reported from Brasilia. Associated Press Writer Stan Lehman and Bradley Brooks contributed to this report from Sao Paulo.
