When Sha Money XL started developing his first producer panel back in 2007, he knew he was onto something big. One Stop isn't just a networking event that links creative minds from all over the world, Sha's One Stop Shop is recognition of all those who take the relevant steps to establish themselves in the music business. This includes those who might have numerous platinum selling albums to their credit, worldwide acclaim and decades of experience; because at the end of the day everyone has to start somewhere.
This years One Stop Shop will honor three of the most notorious producers of the Hip-Hop era. Each of these three men has been an inspiration to the rest of us, from their lyrical abilities to their innovative production techniques to their use of soul samples and horns; there is simply no denying their presence in the music world today.
This year Money Management are proud to honor Pete Rock, RZA and Q Tip for their undying contribution to not just Hip-Hop but music. Pete Rock, creator of hits such as T.R.O.Y, Juicy and The World is Yours burst onto the music scene in 1987 as a DJ but it wasn't long before the Bronx native was combining soul samples, horns and drums to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with in the production world. "Pete Rock had me hustling so hard to try and get an SP1200," reminisces Sha Money XL. "His drums were knocking and he is a true inspiration to me and is the reason why I put down the mic and got more into production."
Also honored this year is Queens born wordsmith/producer Q-Tip. A founding member of the Native Tongues Posse and front man of the unique collective A Tribe Called Quest, Q Tip etched his name into Hip-Hop from early on in his career. Infused with jazz, his production is as credible as his rhymes having produced for artists such as Whitney Houston, Nas, Mariah Carey and Mobb Deep. "Growing up in Queens knowing that Q-Tip was from my hood was a true inspiration for me," Sha shares. "Listening to A Tribe Called Quest, from his verses to his tracks and heavy drums Q-Tip was a true motivation for me and plenty more around that era."
Finally the third Honoree at this years ONE STOP SHOP is founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan who has been instrumental in creating that 'New York' sound that many have tried to replicate but few have been able to emulate. The RZA has been responsible for numerous 'classic albums' a fete which is considered a myth for most and yet he continues to surpass each of his projects every time he works on something new. Whether in the role of Bobby Digital, The Rzarector or just as the RZA this Brooklyn rapper/producer/actor continues to influence the producers of today as he will those of tomorrow. "RZA is one of the reasons producers have a different angle on sampling," says Don Cannon. "He has inspired some of the best producers in the game to get to where they are today including me."
